How the work goes
Transitions, quarter round, and the details that finish a floor
Updated September 2026
The floor is the easy part. The edges are what separate a finished job from an almost finished one.
We install luxury vinyl plank and carpet across Northeast Ohio, including North Canton.
Why quarter round exists
Floating floors need an expansion gap at the wall. Quarter round or base shoe covers that gap. The alternative is removing and reinstalling baseboard, which is cleaner looking, more work, and harder on old trim.
Types of transitions
T-molding joins two floors at the same height. A reducer steps down to a lower surface. A threshold finishes at a doorway to an unheated space. Stair nosing finishes the edge of a step. Each has a job, and using the wrong one shows.
Doors and clearance
New flooring changes finished height. Interior doors sometimes need trimming, and a door that swings over carpet needs different clearance than one over plank. This gets checked at the estimate, not on install day.
Line items, not surprises
Quarter round and transitions are listed as line items in your written estimate when they are included, so the count and the price are visible before work starts.
