How the work goes
Why a quote covers more material than your room size
Updated September 2026
Every honest flooring quote includes more material than the square footage of your rooms. Here is where it goes.
We install luxury vinyl plank and carpet across Northeast Ohio, including Hudson.
Cuts create offcuts
Every wall, doorway, and closet means a cut, and the leftover piece is often too short to start the next row. That is normal waste, not padding.
Pattern and direction add to it
Diagonal layouts and long plank runs generate more waste than a simple straight layout in a square room. Rooms with many angles do too.
Cartons and rolls do not divide evenly
Plank comes in cartons covering a fixed area, so a job needing a fraction of a carton buys the whole carton. Carpet comes on rolls of a fixed width, typically twelve feet, and a room wider than that needs a seam planned in the least visible place.
Keep the leftovers
We recommend keeping a spare carton. Dye lots and production runs change, and a matching board years later is worth the closet space when something gets damaged.
