Acclimation: why the floor sits in your house first
Updated September 2026
Material delivered from a cold truck into a warm house is not ready to install. Most manufacturers say so in writing.
We install luxury vinyl plank and carpet across Northeast Ohio, including Independence.
What is happening
Flooring expands and contracts with temperature and humidity. Installed while it is still adjusting, it keeps moving afterward, which is how gaps at seams and buckling at walls get started.
Ohio makes this real
A January delivery can arrive well below freezing and go into a house at seventy degrees. That is a large swing, and it is exactly the situation acclimation exists for.
Do it in the right conditions
Material should sit in the room where it will be installed, at normal living temperature, with the house conditioned as you actually keep it. A cold garage does not count.
Follow the specific product
Requirements vary by product, and the applicable manufacturer instructions govern. We follow the instruction sheet for the floor you chose, because ignoring it is a documented way to void a warranty.
