How the work goes
Caring for new carpet
Updated September 2026
New carpet does a few alarming things in the first month that are entirely normal. Here is what to expect and what to actually do.
We install luxury vinyl plank and carpet across Northeast Ohio, including Green.
Shedding is normal
Cut pile carpet sheds loose fiber for the first few weeks. It stops. Vacuum regularly and it passes faster.
Do not pull a sprout
A single tuft standing above the rest gets trimmed level with scissors, never pulled. Pulling takes a whole row with it.
Blot, do not rub
Work a spill from the outside in, blotting with a clean white cloth. Rubbing pushes it into the backing and distorts the pile permanently.
Vacuum more than you think
Traffic lanes want attention several times a week. Most carpet wear is soil abrading fiber, so removing it is genuinely preventive rather than cosmetic.
Professional cleaning and your warranty
Many carpet warranties require professional cleaning at stated intervals and require you to keep the receipts. Check your specific manufacturer warranty and hold onto the paperwork.
